Why This Journal

Traditional research journals in the various medical specialties are limited in the number and scope of articles published. This limitation creates long delays or lag time between the completion of an article and subsequent publication. In addition, many journals limit the type of research that is considered for acceptance, eliminating valuable additions to the literature such as corroborative research and retrospective studies. The Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine considers submissions from all legitimate medical disciplines. We especially encourage articles dealing with:
" Clinical Trial Data
" Comparative Drug Studies
" Pharmacoeconomic and Outcomes Research
" Pharmacologic and Pharmacokinetic Studies
" Comprehensive Reviews

Editorial Review

All manuscripts submitted for publication are reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers chosen for their expertise in the field. Each manuscript is assessed for the quality of research design, methodology, validity of medical hypotheses, analysis techniques, and statistical merit, quality of discussion and conclusions.

Information for Authors

Papers submitted for consideration for publication in The Journal of Applied Research for Veterinary Medicine will be reviewed by at least two expert members of the Editorial Review Board with appropriate credentials and expertise in the specific topic covered. To qualify for publication, reports must reflect proper research protocols, including valid control groups an externally relevant population, clinically appropriate diagnostic and treatment regimens, random diagnostic/treatment assignment, blinded assessment, an externally relevant practice or field setting, adequate follow-up, adequate statistical merit to detect treatment effects, controls for complicating variables, measurement of clinically relevant outcomes to discover important differences, and appropriate statistical analysis to determine significance.

The Journal invites submission of clinical and laboratory research manuscripts in all areas of veterinary medicine, including pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Manuscripts must be previously unpublished and cannot be simultaneously under consideration with another publisher. The publisher will require the authors to sign a document warranting that the material does not violate any copyright or other intellectual rights and assigning the copyright to The Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine. All manuscripts will be subject to editing before they are published.

Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts may be submitted on-line to the journal at www.jrnlappliedresearch.com to expedite. Alternatively, manuscripts may be submitted on a 31/2-inch disk compatible with Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, or ASCII. The disk should be accompanied by three copies of the manuscript. Send manuscripts to the Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine, P.O. Box 463, Newtown, PA 18940.

Tables and Diagrams: All such materials should be submitted with the manuscript if they serve to clarify the discussion.

Illustrations: All illustrations should have the author's name, figure number, and TOP indicated clearly on the back. Slides should have this information on the slide mount. Illustrations may be submitted in color but will be converted to black-and-white prior to publication. Illustrations are handled carefully and will be returned to the author, but the publisher cannot be held responsible for originals. Authors are advised to retain duplicates.

Publication Fees: The Journal does not accept advertising. In order to offset production charges, authors will be assessed a fee of $300 U.S. per published page. Three manuscript pages are equal to one published page. In cases where the fees would pose a financial hardship for the authors, fellowships are available to offset the standard page fees.

Statistical Guidelines: The publisher recommends that the authors consult a statistician in formulating the experimental design. The design should reflect the most efficient means of testing the hypothesis that has been formulated for study. The study should then be conducted, analyzed, and interpreted in conformance with the experimental design. Analysis should determine whether the results support the hypothesis.
